This was a piece I put together for the parenting website The M Word, which was started by me and a bunch of other young women in Sydney. I had a great time working on the website and feel much more informed about that special time in a woman’s life when she becomes a mum – I’m not there yet, but I will be interested one day! For this feature I won an Ossie Award – the Mindframe for Journalism Education Prize for mental health reporting.

Antenatal depression and anxiety can be debilitating but they are not always recognised and treated. With advances in the treatment of physical conditions during pregnancy, mental health conditions are emerging as important areas of treatment and research.
